Re: I am the antithesis of mindfulness
Thanks Gareth. I've picked up this book ( http://www.amazon.com/Why-Cant-Meditate-Mindfulness-Practice/dp/0349405751 ) and I'm about 1/4 of the way through it. It looks head on at the difficulties people face with Mindfulness Meditation including misconceptions about having a "clear mind" ...

Re: I am the antithesis of mindfulness
Hi happy, thanks for the thoughts. I too have struggled with anxiety for many, many years. I was diagnosed with panic disorder back in, oh, something like 1997. It is a constant background in my life though medication has been helpful. It's manageable most of the time until some terrible thing happe...

Re: I am the antithesis of mindfulness
I got interested in Buddhism in college (circa 2000) when my best friend became an evangelical Christian. Buddhism just resonated with me, the parts about attachment and mindfulness especially. Re: Guided meditation vs. Non-guided meditation
What do you mean by 'progress' and a 'poor manner'? Hi Peter, That was just me trying not to say "doing it wrong". It can be frustrating sometimes when people talk about meditation and say things like "there is no wrong way to do it" or "no way is the way". I know ther...

Re: Guided meditation vs. Non-guided meditation
It seems to me there is a goal in the sense that there is a purpose to mindfulness practice: to become more mindful, less stressed, more caring, etc. Perhaps there is no goal in the sense that there is no point you reach whereby you are "done" practicing. Also, there may not be a "wro...
