Re: The Power Of This Practice

Sounds like a hell of a time.

Sorry, I had to do it.

Wonderful story - thanks for sharing, and glad everyone is ok!

Re: Does everybody have something to gain from meditation?

And somebody replied to me saying that meditation doesn't work for everyone. It depends on what this person means by "works," which will - most likely - lead us down the rabbit hole of misconceptions: 1.) My mind is too busy - I can't meditate. 2.) Meditation doesn't make me relaxed. 3.) ...

Re: Boredom

Gareth, you asked "What is boredom?" Tolle's passage from his book "Stillness Speaks" really resonated with me. You may have already read it - if not, here it is: "The mind exists in a state of "not enough" and so is always greedy for more. When you are identified ...

Re: Surfacing Emotions

Hi Jabbers, first I would say that you're quite normal - so, don't judge yourself for these feelings and emotions. Or for crying and laughing (or any combination of those!). Based on what you wrote, it doesn't sound like you are judging - but, we all have a tendency to do it and sometimes it's one o...

I like the quote from Suryacitta in the interview I've just posted on the main site:

I've got to check the main site more often - that was wonderful. Tweeting it and posting it on Facebook later today. :)

Re: Why is it that people stop meditating?

I believe most people on these boards agree not to enter the practice with expectations of specific benefits - in fact, I just made a post on another thread about that. It is, however, important to clarify what mindfulness and meditation are, and what they are not. To that end, I communicate that it...

Re: Seeking help

Hi Daisy, there's some anxious and negative thoughts rising to the surface an awful lot, like when you stir a pond and the bubbles rise to the surface. I don't like it!!...it's not what I expected. There's a story about a guy who visits an enlightened sage - he travels for months to reach him and wh...

Re: Why is it that people stop meditating?

the goal of mindfulness is not to quieten the mind or put an end to becoming (whatever that means). A quieter mind might well be a by-product of regular mindfulness practice but, with respect, to say it's a goal is to miss the point by a good few furlongs. Jon, Hove Indeed - this is the most common...

Re: Why is it that people stop meditating?

Harris' book really clicked for me, and I'm approaching this in a new light, with the thinking that it's not something to do briefly and just toss aside, but a life habit that I need to do daily, like showering and brushing my teeth. Harris' book is great - he is doing a wonderful job promoting min...

Re: How to Become More Curious

Thanks Jon W. 8-) We should all strive to match the level of helpfulness you provide on these forums. Hi aly4519, you asked: Being this curious I imagine would likely result in more "thinking," no? But thinking isn't bad - it's getting caught up in thought (or, as Tolle puts it, "lost...
