It's probably not mindful to boast, but . . .
My 14 year old daughter just started high school and she is taking Latin as her language class. Latin at this school is only offered "zero period" which means an hour before regular school begins. I made a commitment to take her to school every day--that's HUGE for me because I'm not a mor...

What JKZ said
I was watching the repeat of the 60 Minutes interview with Jon Kabat Zinn last night and he said something that was a "light bulb moment" for me. He was talking about how to practice mindfulness in everyday life, and he said something along the lines of "if you are taking a shower, be...

Re: Full Catastrophe Living - necessary? Worthwhile, even?
Sounds like you've tried yoga and it's not for you, but I just want to say that I did not expect to like the yoga at all in the MBSR course, and it's the part I ended up liking the most. The reason is that it's just hard enough for me that I have to really focus, and my monkey mind is relatively qui...

Re: New to Mindfulness and a bit concerned
I'm not sure the 8-week MBSR class was really all that helpful to me. I had been doing pretty good with the meditation on my own and the class I took didn't really do much to teach the yoga component. Most of what we went over in class I got from the book (Full Catastrophe living) and from other sou...

Re: Online meditation partner/buddy sought
I use an app called Insight Timer--it's available on the computer, too. It's free for the basic version and for $2.99 you can upgrade for more bells and access to guided meditations (I think those are the perks). One thing I like is that you can see how many people around the world are meditating at...

Re: Online meditation partner/buddy sought
It would help to know what time zone you're in and what time of day you typically try to meditate. I live on the West Coast and meditate late in the evening, and that means most people on the East Coast are (or should be!) asleep by the time I get a chance to sit. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Re: Attending to breathing gives me a pounding heart.
A couple of thoughts: 1) Is it possible that it is always that loud and hard, but you only notice it when meditating? 2) It can very well be some anxiety about meditating. Explore it, see how the rest of your body is feeling when it's happening, how does it make you feel (concerned? frustrated? etc....

A little mindfulness humor
Suddenly I'm noticing articles and things about mindfulness everywhere. We're they always there, but I'm just being mindful about them now? This funny piece appeared in the San Franciso Chronicle today: http://sfgate.com/travel/departures/article/Serenity-on-an-A380-without-leaving-the-ground-622029...

Re: Meditation cushions
My muscles are pretty tight, so sitting on the floor or a very low cushion is not possible. I purchased a rectangular Hugger Mugger, which is a very firm cushion, and I put that on top of a very low footstool (about 5" high) meant to be storage for needlework supplies. This goes at the end of m...
