Re: Started off well. Now struggling.

@Gareth, @paulpsych, @Matt Y: Thank you for your quick responses. And sorry I took so long to acknowledge. I actually took time off from informative resources on meditation and got back to just enjoying the process. Yes the practice feels different now. No I no longer have breath as an anchor. Yes I...

Started off well. Now struggling.

It's been a few good months since I've been practicing. I'd kept my routine pretty simple so far. Normally a mix between a guided meditation with my teacher, focusing on my breath and focusing on day-to-day activities like walking, eating, etc. To be honest, I started meditation because of my anxiet...

I will definitely check out the book you've recommended and the 8-week course. Between the 2 books, I str...

Applying Gained Insights

Lately I've gained valuable insights about myself. Not sure if it's because of meditation, but it never really happened before. Some insights are more readily applicable. For example, I realized I spend a lot of time in others' heads when I make a decision. "What will he think?" "They...

Re: Is it about focus or awareness? Struggling with the conc

not_neo, you seem quite smart and your question is very relevant. I think every person who is serious about learning mindfulness will eventually ask himself/herself similar questions and will have similar doubts - it is a part of the learning process. Mindfulness is not about focus or concentration...

Re: Is it about focus or awareness? Struggling with the conc

Yes, for now that's the plan. From what you guys are saying, I think only giving my practise some time will give me more clarity.

Re: Is it about focus or awareness? Struggling with the conc

I agree. Instead of ignoring it, I thought maybe there is some truth or merit to it. But instead of letting "it" decide what to do, I thought I'll get a more logical and well-advised solution. That's how I landed up here :)

Re: Is it about focus or awareness? Struggling with the conc

Hi not-neo (is that a Matrix reference?) These are good questions to be asking yourself at this stage in your practice. To me, they're signs that you are warming to it nicely. In my experience, the concepts of mindfulness slowly but surely become engrained. Old, unhealthy habits are replaced by new...
